Møntergade Restaurant is one of the new restaurants that started from scratch without old his-toric roots in smørrebrød culture. Nonetheless, it resides at the very top of restaurant rankings. The style is somehow modern but with a strong foundation in the classics; this goes for food as well as service.
The head smørrebrød chef is Karina Pedersen, who has spent 20 years with the smørrebrød revolution, together with her long time professional partner Betina Madsen. They were the driving force inside the kitchen of Schønnemann in the early years of its renaissance. The team of two partnered with waiters Simon Olesen and Rasmus Amdi, and together they opened Møntergade Restaurant in 2020.
The choice of smørrebrød is good if not impressive, but the quality and creativeness are. Karina and Betina have created a very personal and playful style where classic meets modern, but where great taste always has the right of way ahead of modernity.
A great selection of beer and aquavit at Møntergade is accompanied by the best wine list in this category, where service is extremely fine and the atmosphere cosy with its very own take on hygge.
