At Selma restaurant, you can experience modern smørrebrød at a very high level served in an environment, that is very different from the old classics and seems somehow inspired by the modern hipster culture. The interior bears absolutely no resemblance to the old-fashioned smørrebrød restaurants and neither does the style of the waiters nor the music.
The style is avant-garde and playful. You may, for example, experience a herring smørrebrød where the bread is on top of the fish in the form of crumbles. Quality is extremely high, and deliciousness is in the driver’s seat – with creativity right next to it often trying to grab the steering wheel. In the backseat, you will find Denmark’s best and most interesting selection of beer, as the restaurant’s sleeping partner is Mikkel Borg Bjergsø of the acclaimed Mikkeller Beer.
Smørrebrød choice is not abundant, but Selma offers more variety than most other modern smørrebrød restaurants, and the selection is large enough to give you a hard time deciding what to order.
Owner/chef Magnus Pettersson had a career as a gourmet chef outside of the smørrebrød world before he joined the Aamann chain and eventually opened his own place.
